Job Summary

The Backend Java Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining secure, scalable, and high-performance backend services and microservices that support payment, remittance, wallet, POS, and e-commerce platforms. The role will work closely with product, frontend/mobile development, DevOps, and other technical teams to deliver reliable financial technology solutions and seamless integrations with banks, payment gateways, and other third-party service providers.

Responsibilities

* Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java-based backend applications and microservices.
* Develop and maintain RESTful APIs for payment, transaction processing, wallet, and other financial technology solutions.
* Build scalable and reliable services for remittance, payment processing, POS, e-commerce, wallet, ledger, settlement, and reconciliation platforms.
* Integrate backend applications with payment platforms, banks, KYC/AML providers, and third-party APIs.
* Implement secure payment processing solutions in line with PCI DSS and applicable security standards.
* Develop event-driven and asynchronous services using messaging technologies such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
* Design and implement robust transaction processing, settlement, reconciliation, and ledger-related services.
* Write comprehensive unit, integration, and automated tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
* Participate actively in code reviews and contribute to maintaining high-quality coding standards.
* Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve application performance, integration, and production issues.
* Collaborate with DevOps teams on CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes, cloud deployments, and application monitoring.
* Apply appropriate security practices, including encryption, tokenisation, authentication, and secure API communication.
* Prepare and maintain technical documentation for applications, APIs, integrations, and system architecture.
* Stay abreast of emerging backend technologies, payment technology trends, and software development best practices.

Requirement and Skills

* Bachelor’s degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
* Proven professional experience developing backend applications using Java.
* Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot/Spring Cloud.
* Strong understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and distributed systems.
* Practical experience with relational databases such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL.
* Experience working with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or other messaging/event-streaming technologies.
* Experience developing payment, wallet, ledger, transaction processing, or other high-volume financial systems will be a strong advantage.
* Good understanding of secure software development and payment security principles.
* Knowledge of encryption, tokenisation, OAuth 2.0, JWT, and API security.
* Experience integrating applications with banks, payment gateways, and third-party service providers.
* Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, and cloud-based deployments.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced technology environment.
* Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
